Daines Urges Colleagues to Reverse the Ninth’s Circuit Cottonwood Decision

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today urged the members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to reverse the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals disastrous Cottonwood Decision. In a memo to his colleagues, Daines underscored the critical nature of quick action to avoid further crippling of federal land management across Ninth Circuit states, and demonstrate why Congress should statutorily reverse the decision this year.  “To avoid the ‘crippling’ impacts on federal land management across Ninth Circuit states, Congress should statutorily reverse the Cottonwood decision by amending federal law to codify DOJ’s legal position in legislation enacted this year,” Daines wrote.

Daines Comments on U.S. Supreme Court Decision to Deny Appeal of Cottonwood Case

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today made the following statement after hearing the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to deny the appeal of the U.S. Forest Service in challenging the ruling of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cottonwood v. U.S. Forest Service:  “I’m very disappointed that the Supreme Court declined to hear this case. Allowing the Ninth Circuit’s disastrous ruling to stand will greatly increase needless paperwork on the Forest Service and further delay much-needed restorative management work. This development makes it especially critical that Congress act to explicitly remove this crippling regulatory burden, and I will continue

OP-ED: Fighting for Montana Values

With the holidays behind us and Congress gearing up for a new session, I look forward to continuing my mission fighting for our Montana way of life in Washington, D.C. Under President Joe Biden and Democrat congressional leadership, Montanans are facing the highest inflation rate in three decades, driving up prices of everything from groceries to used cars. In addition, the wide-open southern border is allowing record amounts of fentanyl to devastate our communities, and the attacks on made in Montana and made in America energy are costing Montana jobs and raising prices at the gas pump.   As I

Daines, Rosendale talk forest management at Western Caucus roundtable in Bozeman

Source: Bozeman Daily Chronicle Montana’s Republican U.S. senator said in an interview on Thursday that when it comes to the federal government’s management of national forests, the single biggest problem is the precedent that resulted from the 2015 “Cottonwood decision.” “We’ll be much better off in Montana if we have the loggers back in the forests instead of the lawyers. Right now it’s the lawyers who are dominating forest management,” said Sen. Steve Daines, host of Thursday’s Summer Western Caucus Member Roundtable at the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture. The meeting drew at least 15 Republican members of
