Daines Urges Relief Funding for Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena, Montana Rural Providers During Coronavirus Pandemic

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today sent a letter to U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Azar urging the next round of hospital and provider funding under the Coronavirus Economic Recovery Package to target the needs of Montana’s rural providers and children’s hospitals, including Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena.

“I am concerned that a number of critically important providers in Montana are still in desperate need of relief, and I am especially concerned about Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena and our state’s extensive network of rural hospitals,” Daines wrote. “I would implore you to respond rapidly to deliver assistance under the CARES Act to ensure Montana’s providers receive immediate financial support as they continue to care for our communities.”

Daines fought to secure $100 billion in the Coronavirus Economic Recovery Package to ensure healthcare providers continue to receive the support they need for COVID-19 related expenses and lost revenue.

Two weeks ago, Daines announced that the first round of funding released by HHS directed $111,503,248 for various Montana hospitals and providers during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, a portion of the funding went towards covering costs of uninsured patients for coronavirus related care.

Statement of Support:

“Montana’s hospitals have responded to the pandemic with a robust plan that tracked public health recommendations.  Canceling elective surgeries and efforts to create hospital surge have had tremendous impact.  We are beating COVID-19 in Montana, but our hospitals need additional assistance.  Senator Daines advocacy to ensure our state’s hospitals and especially Shodair Children’s Hospital are recognized in the next round of CMS’ distribution is appreciated.  Montana has outperformed the nation in its response and our hospitals should not be penalized for our success.” – Rich Rasmussen, President and CEO, Montana Hospital Association
