Daines Blasts Biden’s Taxpayer-Funded Giveaway to the Abortion Industry

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s rule that dismantles the Trump-era Title X Protect Life Rule, which enforced a wall of separation between taxpayer-funded family planning programs and abortion. “Since Day One, President Biden has been working to send taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry. Today’s rule change defies the law, and is yet another example of this Administration’s complete disregard for human life and the consciences of healthcare providers and American taxpayers. Abortion is not family planning, it is family destruction,” Daines said. The Biden administration’s rule: Allows taxpayer-funded Title X programs to support and promote abortion Provides tens

Daines Calls on Forest Service to Increase Timber Harvest Volume in MT after Falling Short in 2021

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today is calling on the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to do more to reach its timber harvest goals in Montana after falling short by 30% in fiscal year 2021, due in large part to increased litigation and red tape following the Cottonwood decision. Daines stressed that Montana communities rely on the USFS to reach these goals in order to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, protect families from fires and support their economies.  “I understand the backlog of consultation due in large to the precedent set by the Cottonwood decision has contributed to the shortfall in volume

Daines Stands Up for Montanans’ Second Amendment Rights, Pushes Back Against Biden’s Effort to Increase Oversight, Regulations on Guns

U.S. SENATE — This week, U.S. Senator Steve Daines pushed back against President Biden’s attempt to infringe upon Montanans’ Second Amendment rights by joining the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), an international agreement that would increase international oversight and regulate trade in firearms. Biden’s attempt to join the ATT comes after a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate rejected ratifying it in 2013.    “The vague language of the ATT makes American commitments uncertain, the most concerning of which is the lack of protections for lawful gun ownership which threatens the rights afforded to Americans under the Second Amendment. Further, with an amendment process that

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today introduced a resolution that would establish a bipartisan Joint Select Committee on Afghanistan to conduct a full investigation into President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal out of Afghanistan. Daines is calling for answers about the hundreds of Americans left behind enemy lines, billions of dollars in U.S. military equipment left in the hands of terrorists and the tragic attack that took the lives of 13 brave U.S. service members. “President Biden’s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in the tragic deaths of U.S. service members, the abandonment of Americans and our allies behind enemy lines, the loss of billions of dollars

Daines Fights for Montana Indian Country, Urges Treasury Secretary to Establish Office of Tribal Affairs

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines joined a group of bipartisan senators to urge U.S. Department of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to establish an Office of Tribal Affairs to strengthen the Department’s relationship with Montana’s tribal nations and provide more in-house expertise on matters affecting Indian Country. “The recent tribal consultations and interactions between Treasury and tribal nations underscore the need for sufficient, dedicated, in-house expertise at Treasury on tribal policy matters. The establishment of such an office has support from Indian Country and would improve Treasury’s ability to fulfill its trust responsibilities to respect the nation-to-nation relationship between the federal government

Daines Votes No on Stone-Manning Confirmation

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today voted against the confirmation of President Biden’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Land Management, Tracy Stone-Manning. “Tracy Stone-Manning misled Montanans and the United States Senate about her involvement in an ecoterrorism tree spiking crime, which greatly damaged her credibility and public trust. It’s now up to Stone-Manning to rebuild trust with Montanans, stakeholders including loggers and Bureau of Land Management employees, and show that she will lead the agency in a bipartisan and pragmatic way. I strongly urge Stone-Manning to commit herself to protecting the Montana way of life, Montana energy jobs and proper land management in all decisions that she will make moving forward,” Daines said.  Senator Daines previously

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines is urging President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to protect Montanans’ financial privacy and abandon the Biden administration’s unprecedented proposal to force banks and other financial institutions to report customer information, such as deposits or withdrawals of as little as $600, directly to the IRS. At a U.S. Senate hearing today, Daines raised his concerns that this proposal would be especially burdensome for smaller banks and credit unions in Montana, which would be required to submit additional information to the IRS on nearly all of their customers.
