U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines (MT) today introduced the bipartisan Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act of 2019, a bill that would curb abuses of the popular conservation easement tax benefit while allowing it to continue to serve as an important tool for conserving land and protecting family farms and ranches.  “The conservation easement tax incentive is meant to help conserve land and protect family farms, not be used as a tax shelter,” Daines said. “This bill makes several important changes to the tax incentive that will help curb abuses and make sure that the program remains an important conservation tool.” The bill limits qualifying conservations contributions,

U.S. SENATE – A bipartisan coalition led by U.S. Senators Steve Daines (MT) and Joe Manchin (WV) today introduced the Tricare Reserve Improvement Act, which extends eligibility to all National Guardsmen and Reservists, regardless of their civilian occupation. Under current law federal employees who serve in the National Guard or Armed Forces Reserve are prohibited from participating in Tricare Reserve Select (TRS).  This disparity creates a financial incentive for transitioning service members to take their skillset and credentials away from the federal government, and penalizes those who choose to serve their country in a civilian capacity. It also limits the effectiveness of TRS as

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today cosponsored a bipartisan legislative lands package that benefits Montana including permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act.  “This would be one of the biggest accomplishments for conservation and protection of our public lands in Montana and across our country in decades,” Daines said. “Last month I secured commitment for a vote on this public lands package, and I’m pleased to see it is closer to becoming a reality.
