Daines pressing Biden Administration to reach agreement to re-open Canadian border

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Noting the rising vaccination rates in Montana, Senator Steve Daines wants the Biden Administration to be more aggressive about reaching an agreement to re-open the Canadian border to regular traffic. There’s still no sign of a breakthrough in efforts to resume anything but commercial, “essential” travel through Montana’s ports of entry with Canada. And as we’ve shown you before, it’s keeping cross-border families separated by the COVID restrictions. “Well, this is going to take leadership from the top and the hypocrisy that we’re seeing at the moment from the Biden Administration is frustrating many Montanans,” says Daines.

Daines Applauds New Return-to-Work Program in Montana

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines released the following statement after Montana Governor Greg Gianforte announced the creation of a new return-to-work bonus program and a return to pre-pandemic unemployment insurance requirements. “Across Montana we’re seeing small businesses put up ‘help wanted’ or ‘now hiring’ signs. We’re even seeing some Montana small businesses close because they can’t find enough workers to fill openings,” Daines said. “Governor Gianforte’s commonsense decision will help incentivize Montanans getting back to work. Montanans can safely return to work and small businesses throughout Montana have plenty of job openings. This is a great decision for

Daines Cosponsors Bill to Speed Critical Mineral Production

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines cosponsored a bill to streamline the permitting process for domestic critical mineral production. Daines’ bill will help create Montana jobs, boost the economy, protect our national security and ensure the United States is competitive against China.  “If we don’t increase domestic critical mineral production we will continue to be reliant on hostile, foreign nations,” Senator Daines said. “This bill ensures we don’t take a backseat to China and other countries who have terrible environmental standards and atrocious human rights violations. We can produce these minerals here in the U.S. and grow jobs, protect the environment and bolster

Sen. Daines tours MT Silversmiths

Senator Steve Daines spent a few hours in Columbus last Friday to tour Montana Silversmiths. Before the low-key tour got underway, Daines spoke to a handful of workers, telling them that he was excited to get to see the business up-close for the first time. Daines, who grew up in Gallatin County and spent a lot of time in Stillwater County hiking and recreating, said that decades ago, in a church nursery in Bozeman, he met a man by the name of Kent Williams. Williams, of course, would go on to found Montana Silversmiths and grow it into the tremendously
