Daines Presses DHS for Answers on Release of Haitian Migrants into U.S.

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines is demanding answers from Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas about reports that thousands of migrants in Del Rio, Texas, were released into the interior of the U.S. instead of facing removal as the Administration had previously pledged. “While we applaud the Administration’s original stated intent to expel the majority of migrants under the CDC’s Title 42 order or to expeditiously remove them, we are concerned that DHS did not actually carry out this plan, deployed resources in a manner that weakened border security, and undermined the deterrent effect of any future statements that the Biden

Daines Statement on Democrats’ Proposed House Congressional Districts for New Montana Seats

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today issued the following statement after the proposed maps for Montana’s new U.S. House of Representatives seats were released.  “The maps proposed by the Democrat Commissioners are highly partisan and do not remotely reflect the fair ‘east/west’ districts that for 70 years, always included Lincoln and Flathead Counties in the western district. Without a single proposal that even maintains this basic measure, the Democrats have created congressional districts that are egregious and reckless on their face in an attempt to gerrymander and benefit one political party,” Daines said. Background: Lincoln and Flathead Counties are the

Daines Unveils Proposal Supporting Responsible, Effective Conservation for Montana

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines, chair of the Senate Western Caucus, today unveiled a blueprint for responsible, effective conservation supporting Montana and the West. Daines’ “Western Conservation Principles” serves as an alternative to the Biden administration’s “30 by 30 initiative” and America the Beautiful report.  “Conservation is part of our Montana way of life—we know how to be good stewards of our lands,” Daines said. “I believe it’s a conservative principle to conserve. That’s why I’m pushing a new ‘Western Conservation Principles’ initiative that uses science-based, time-tested, locally-driven practices to bring about meaningful conservation outcomes, unlike President Biden’s vague 30×30 initiative.”  Daines released the “Western Conservation Principles” with

Daines at Afghanistan Hearing: Biden’s Disastrous Withdrawal Has Left U.S. Vulnerable to Terrorist Attacks

U.S. SENATE — Today at a U.S. Senate Committee hearing, Senator Steve Daines slammed President Biden’s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan that led to the deaths of 13 U.S. troops, left Americans and our allies behind enemy lines, and has left the U.S. more vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Daines stressed that Biden’s actions have made the U.S. less safe and allowed Afghanistan to once again become a safe haven for groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda.   Watch and download the remarks HERE. “In fact, according to General Milley, he is not confident that the U.S. could deny Al-Qaeda or ISIS the ability to use Afghanistan as a launchpad for

Daines at Senate Hearing: We Must Continue to Invest in Domestic Mineral Production, Protect Montana Mining Jobs

U.S. SENATE — Today at a U.S. Senate Committee hearing, Senator Steve Daines stressed how the Democrats’ reckless, multitrillion tax and spending spree bill will kill Montana mining jobs by imposing burdensome new taxes and fees on small businesses. To begin the hearing, Daines introduced David Brown, President and CEO of WYO-BEN, which is headquartered in Billings and mines bentonite. He asked for Brown’s input on the impact that Democrats’ tax proposals could have on his business and the nation’s supply of bentonite. Daines Blasts Biden’s Taxpayer-Funded Giveaway to the Abortion Industry

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s rule that dismantles the Trump-era Title X Protect Life Rule, which enforced a wall of separation between taxpayer-funded family planning programs and abortion. “Since Day One, President Biden has been working to send taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry. Today’s rule change defies the law, and is yet another example of this Administration’s complete disregard for human life and the consciences of healthcare providers and American taxpayers. Abortion is not family planning, it is family destruction,” Daines said. The Biden administration’s rule: Allows taxpayer-funded Title X programs to support and promote abortion Provides tens

Daines Calls on Forest Service to Increase Timber Harvest Volume in MT after Falling Short in 2021

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today is calling on the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to do more to reach its timber harvest goals in Montana after falling short by 30% in fiscal year 2021, due in large part to increased litigation and red tape following the Cottonwood decision. Daines stressed that Montana communities rely on the USFS to reach these goals in order to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, protect families from fires and support their economies.  “I understand the backlog of consultation due in large to the precedent set by the Cottonwood decision has contributed to the shortfall in volume

Daines Stands Up for Montanans’ Second Amendment Rights, Pushes Back Against Biden’s Effort to Increase Oversight, Regulations on Guns

U.S. SENATE — This week, U.S. Senator Steve Daines pushed back against President Biden’s attempt to infringe upon Montanans’ Second Amendment rights by joining the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), an international agreement that would increase international oversight and regulate trade in firearms. Biden’s attempt to join the ATT comes after a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate rejected ratifying it in 2013.    “The vague language of the ATT makes American commitments uncertain, the most concerning of which is the lack of protections for lawful gun ownership which threatens the rights afforded to Americans under the Second Amendment. Further, with an amendment process that
