WASHINGTON, D.C. —Senator Steve Daines today announced a new partnership with the Library of Congress to donate surplus books to Montana public schools.
Through the program, three different Montana schools and libraries will receive books each month to encourage education and learning. The first recipients include:
- Harlowton Public Library in Wheatland County
- Troy Public High School in Lincoln County
- Brockton Public High School in Roosevelt County
“As a product of Montana public schools, I know the importance of ensuring our schools have the resources and tools they need to prepare Montana’s students for success,” Daines stated. “I am excited to partner with local schools to provide our students with better state-wide access to books and other educational materials.”
Francis J. LaBounty, Superintendent of the Brockton School District, expressed support for Daines’ book program and noted how it will make a difference in rural schools across Montana.
“As the Superintendent of the Brockton School District on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Eastern Montana, I am pleased to express my gratitude for Senator Daines’ book program,” LaBounty stated. “We are a rural school with approximately 150 students grades K-12 with a very tight budget and ever increasing needs. In our efforts to improve the educational quality and academic success of our students, this book program provides excellent resources and the curricula needed to assist with our challenges of raising math and reading scores across the district.”
The Library of Congress receives approximately 25,000 books each day. Duplicates are made available to Members of Congress free of cost.
