Daines Congratulates Four Montana Students on Receiving West Point Academy Appointments

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Steve Daines today congratulated four distinguished Montana students for their appointments to the United States Military Academy at West Point. The students are Keller Balsam, Macy Newbary, Alliemarinda Phillips and Michael Sewell.

Daines spoke to the four students last night and personally congratulated each of them on their appointment. 

Keller Balsam, a senior at Helena High School, is a member of his school’s varsity track team and a cross-country runner. He serves as a member of the National Honor Society and President of Helena High’s Mentoring Teens Against Drugs. He recently participated in American Legion Boys State and volunteers with Food Share Community Gardens.

Macy Newbary, a senior at Big Sky High School in Missoula, is the captain of her school’s varsity volleyball and softball teams. She is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Alliemarinda Phillips, a senior at Great Falls Central Catholic High School, is captain of her volleyball team and participated in American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. She serves as Student Council President, is a member of the National Honor Society and is member of her school’s speech and debate team.

Michael Sewell, a senior at Frenchtown High School, is the captain of his school’s track team and a member of the Northwest Montana Class A All-Conference Cross Country team. He serves as president of his Key Club and is a volunteer at the local food bank.  

“I’m proud to congratulate these hardworking young Montanans on yet another success in their outstanding high school careers,” Daines stated. “An appointment to West Point Academy is proof of these students’ exemplary work in their academics and their unwavering dedication to public service. I look forward to watching these students become the future leaders of our state and nation.”
