Daines Announces over $7 Million for Four Montana Airports

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced $7,348,4900.00 in funding for critical construction upgrades for four Montana airports.

Grants will be awarded to airports in Stevensville, Great Falls, Kalispell and Bozeman.

“This funding will ensure that our airports can continue to serve their communities and keep Montana as a top travel destination for tourists,” Daines stated.

Grants awarded today by the U.S. Department of Transportation include:

Stevensville Airport: $1,999,142.00

Great Falls International Airport: In addition to the $7,175,439.00 secured by Great Falls International last week, they will receive an additional $1,820,614.00.

Glacier Park International: $1,204,079.00

Bozeman Yellowstone International: $2,324,655.00

More information on how the funds will be used are available at the links above.

“These funds will help fulfill the needs of the airport’s capital improvement plan and provide the necessary infrastructure for the traveling public in the near future,” Brian Sprenger, Airport Director at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport stated.

“The Great Falls Airport Authority was very pleased to learn that $1.8 million in entitlement funding has been awarded to our airport,” John Faulkner, Director, Great Falls International Airport stated.  “These are the remaining funds, combined with the $7.1 million awarded last week, needed to rehabilitate Runway 16/34 and make important safety improvements to our airfield.  The Airport Authority is very appreciative of Montana’s Senators and their efforts to keep us informed and also to ensure that the FAA awarded this funding in time for summer construction.”

Daines secured the following provisions in the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization:

  • Airport Improvement Program (AIP) dollars which build and maintain Montana’s critical aviation infrastructure such as runways.
  • Also secured language that ensures if airports see a decrease in enplanements for a year, they don’t lose AIP dollars.
  • Daines has also engaged the FAA to expedite grants to northern states with short construction seasons.
