Dear Chairman Murkowski, Ranking Member Cantwell, Chairman Bishop, and Ranking Member Grijalva:

We respectfully request that S. 3192 and H.R. 5778, the Alex Diekmann Peak Designation Act of 2016, be included in a legislative hearing before your respective Committees at the earliest opportunity. The bill will name an unnamed 9,765-foot peak after a Montanan, Alex Diekmann, who recently lost a hard-fought battle with cancer. Alex facilitated more than 55 conservation projects in our state and neighboring states. His talent for working with Montana landowners and local, federal and state partners to foster projects that facilitate public access to public lands, protect family-owned ranches and stable log supply for local mills, private property rights, and wildlife habitat restoration are unmatched and are sincerely missed by many. The bill would call the peak “Alex Diekmann Peak,” located 2.2 miles west-northwest of Finger Mountain on the western boundary of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, Montana (UTM coordinates Zone 12, 457966 E., 4982589 N.

S. 3192 enjoys strong local bipartisan support from Montana’s Governor Steve Bullock, Gallatin and Madison County Commissions, Madison River Foundation, Montana Trout Unlimited, Montana Association of Land Trusts, the Trust for Public Land, American Fly Fishing Trade Association, the City of Whitefish, MT, among many other Montanans.

Naming a peak in Alex’s honor is a beautiful way to celebrate his life and memory. Thank you for your consideration of this request and we look forward to your response.
