Daines, Tester Introduce Resolution to Mark November as National Native American Heritage Month

U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Jon Tester today introduced a Senate resolution to recognize the month of November as National Native American Heritage Month. The resolution celebrates the heritage, culture, and history of Native Americans and recognizes the many contributions Native Americans have made to our nation.

The resolution was unanimously passed by the U.S. Senate. 

“National Native American Heritage Month celebrates the rich history, culture and legacy of Indian tribes to our country,” Daines stated. “By honoring the importance of tribal self-governance, preserving indigenous languages, we can continue to strengthen and preserve the United States’ commitment of government-to-government relationships.” 

“Native Americans maintain vibrant cultures that are rich with tradition and a strong sense of community,” Tester said.  “Recognizing National Native American Heritage Month helps celebrate Native American cultures and better educate folks about the treaty and trust responsibilities owed to folks in Indian Country.”

The resolution is sponsored by U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) and co-sponsored by Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Al Franken (D-MN), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Dean Heller (R-NV), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), John Hoeven (R-ND), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), John McCain (R-AZ), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Patty Murray (D-WA), Harry Reid (D-NV), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), John Thune (R-SD), Tom Udall (D-NM), and Ron Wyden (D-OR).

Daines and Tester also co-sponsored this legislation in 2015.
