U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Elaine Chao.
“Secretary Chao is an experienced leader who knows what it takes to deliver results for the American people,” Daines stated. “I look forward to working with her to improve our roads, bridges, runways and infrastructure to create more good-paying jobs.”
Immediately following Chao’s confirmation, Daines extended a formal invitation for the Secretary to visit Montana and see how important “our rural transportation infrastructure is to our economy as well as to national connectivity.”

On December 8, 2016, Daines met with Chao in his Washington, D.C. office where they discussed the importance of prioritizing rural America, specifically the need to ensure equity between urban and rural infrastructure development. They also discussed to the importance of improving telecommunications in rural America.
