U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced $5,024,695.00 in critical funding for four Montana airports in Glendive, Billings, Butte and Kalispell.
“Montana airports play a critical role in our communities,” Daines stated. “This funding will make a big difference in keeping our airports in good shape for current and future use.”
Daines secured the following provisions in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization:
- Airport Improvement Program (AIP) dollars which build and maintain Montana’s critical aviation infrastructure such as runways.
- Daines has also engaged the FAA to expedite grants to northern states with short construction seasons.
The funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Transportation. Details on each grant and its allocation is below:
Dawson Community Airport: $122,040.00
- This project will fund the design phase for a 2,700 square foot terminal building expansion to enable more efficient movement of passengers through the gate holding area.
- This project will fund the design phase for improvements to the terminal building to improve the efficiency of operations and meet passenger needs.
- This project will fund the installation of a wind cone navigational aid to improve safety and provide pilots with critical airfield information.
Billings Logan International Airport: $1,573,454.00
- This project will fund three phases to expand the existing terminal building to meet Federal Aviation Administration design standards and enable more efficient movement of passengers and baggage.
- This grant will fund phase one that includes preliminary engineering.
Bert Mooney Airport: $1,329,201.00
- This project will fund seven phases to construct a 39,903 square foot terminal building to allow the efficient movement of passengers and baggage.
- This grant will fund phase three which includes the demolition of a portion of the existing terminal building.
Glacier Park International Airport: $2,000,000.00
- This project will fund the acquisition of new snow removal truck chasis with pull behind broom to enhance the airport’s ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions.
- This project will fund phase II mill and overlay rehabilitation of 17,640 square yards of the existing general aviation apron to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement.
- This project will fund the acquisition of seven sets of protective clothing and self contained breathing apparatus to replace existing equipment that has reached the end of its useful life.
- This project will fund phase II reconstruction of 560 square yards of the existing apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life.
