U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today spoke on the floor of the U.S. Senate after Democrats refused to fund the government over an unrelated controversial immigration policy that impacts 72 – or .00007 percent – Montanans at the expense of the 24,000 Montana children who depend on the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for access to critical health care.

Text as prepared:
Mr. President,
I’m here to make one point crystal clear for those Montanans who are wondering what is going on with their government.
The reason that the government has shut down is because a controversial illegal immigration policy was not included in a bill that funds the government. If you don’t know that – you’ve missed the facts.
We should not hold the country hostage for a controversial immigration policy that impacts .00007 percent of Montanans.
But the Senior Senator from New York wants to shut the government down and now he is filibustering the United States Senate.
This is a huge mistake. We need to get the government back up and running so that the least amount of pain is felt by Montanans.
