Daines Demands Immediate Funding for Community Health Centers

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today joined a bipartisan press conference with House and Senate colleagues, patients, and health center advocates to urge for immediate funding for the Community Health Center Fund (CHCF).

“With 17 community health centers in Montana, they are vital to providing health care to thousands of Montanans,” said Daines. “Health care is a priority for Montanans and Washington D.C. needs to get this done.”

Background:

On February 6, 2018, Daines sponsored the Community Health Investment, Modernization, and Excellence (CHIME) Act, which provide a five-year reauthorization of and increase funding for the Community Health Center Fund.

On February 5, 2018, Daines led a bipartisan coalition of Senators in a letter calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Charles Schumer to take immediate action to address funding.

On January 22, 2018, Daines supported a continuing resolution, which included funding for community health centers.

On December 21, 2017, Daines voted to provide $550 million in funding for community health centers.

On September 19, 2017, Daines sent a letter to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, urging them to take immediate action to address funding for the Community Health Center Fund. 

On March 17, 2016, Daines sent a letter to the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, urging the Subcommittee to prioritize community health center funding.

On June 9, 2016, Daines secured continuing funding for community health centers in the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations Bill

On March 5, 2015, Daines introduced legislation to encourage investment in community projects, including community health centers in Montana.
