U.S. SENATE — During a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing on rural water infrastructure, U.S. Senator Steve Daines demanded action on projects to deliver clean and reliable drinking water to rural Montana communities.
During the hearing, Tim Petty, the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science at the U.S. Department of the Interior, affirmed his commitment to work with Daines to ensure that the needs of rural communities in Montana are not overlooked when it comes to providing a clean and reliable water supply.

“Clean and reliable water is a basic necessity for all Montana families,” said Daines. “I will fight to make sure these projects receive the resources they need to move across the finish line.”
Background:
On July 20, 2017, the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations passed the bipartisan FY2018 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, which included priorities Daines championed for Montana energy and water development.
On June 16, 2017, Daines’ bill to provide much-needed authorization for Montana rural water infrastructure this week received a legislative hearing in the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power.
On May 10, 2017, Democrats refused to allow a hearing on Daines’ bill. Daines took to the floor to blast the move and underscore the urgency of this hearing by showing five water samples from Circle, Montana.
On March 21, 2017, Daines introduced the legislation. Daines introduced comparable legislation in the 114th Congress.
