U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced $2.5 million will be directed to the University of Montana to begin COVID-19 vaccine development.

“Well I’m here at the University of Montana in Missoula today. We have some exciting news… The NIH, the National Institute of Health, just announced a $2.5 million grant for this university that allows our scientists here in Missoula to accelerate the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. That is greats news for Montana. That is great news for America. I’m very proud,” Daines said.
The $2.5 million grant will be directed to a team of researchers at the Center for Translational Medicine at the University of Montana. The research team will be led by Principal Investigator, Dr. Jay Evans who serves as Director of the Center for Translational Medicine and Research Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at the university.
Daines has been leading the fight in the U.S. Senate, working with the top healthcare and medical leaders across the country and the White House, to accelerate drug development to treat and prevent the Coronavirus. Daines secured over $10 billion in the Phase Three Coronavirus Economic Recovery Package for drug development.
Daines has also been pushing for an end to the U.S. government’s reliance on medical supplies and equipment from China to bring back drug manufacturing jobs to America in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
