U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines issued the following statement after the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court was approved out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The full United States Senate will vote on the confirmation in the coming days.
“Judge Amy Coney Barrett is one step closer to becoming Justice Amy Coney Barrett,” Daines said. “Judge Barrett has a brilliant legal mind and she will uphold our constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment, and won’t legislate from the bench. She is a role model for Montanans and working moms across the country, and is someone Montanans would look up to on our highest court. I look forward to casting my vote to confirm Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court.”
During this morning’s Senate Judiciary Committee business meeting to advance Judge Barrett’s nomination to the Senate floor, all Committee Democrats boycotted the vote, which resulted in the Committee unanimously approving Judge Barrett on a 12-0 vote.
Last week, Daines met with several Northwest Montana businesswomen and community leaders to talk about the importance of Judge Barrett’s confirmation.
