U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines voted against Senate Democrats’ latest attempt at a federal election takeover.
“This is the fourth time the Democrats have tried to pass their partisan power grab to take control of the country and our elections. This effort is about President Biden, Chuck Schumer and the Democrats trying to ensure they control Washington forever. They’re targeting commonsense laws that states like Montana put in place to make it harder to cheat and their federal takeover would overrule the voices of Montana voters. Instead of putting their radical agenda over what America needs right now, the Democrats should focus on fixing the inflation crisis, the supply chain crisis and the southern border crisis they’ve created,” Daines said.
“Montana makes it easy to vote and hard to cheat. Thank you, Senator Daines, for the stance against the habitual attempts of the liberal machine to take over Montana elections,” Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen said.
The Democrats’ federal election takeover bill would:
- Undermine state voter-ID laws
- Spend taxpayer dollars on campaigns
- Mandate ballot drop boxes
- Require states to accept ballots postmarked for up to 7 days following election day
- Prevent states from cleaning up out-of-date voter rolls
- Require same-day voter registration
