U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today is calling for passage of his constitutional amendment to prohibit the burning of the American flag in honor of Flag Day.
“For nearly 250 years, the American flag has served as a distinguished symbol of freedom. Wherever it flies, the flag represents liberty, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. It is incumbent on us, as Americans, to always honor and respect our flag. Congress needs to pass my effort to protect the American flag and all that it stands for,” Daines said.
In 2018, Daines commemorated national Flag Day on the floor of the U.S. Senate by highlighting his constitutional amendment.
Last Flag Day, Daines renewed his commitment to prohibit the physical desecration of the American flag. Daines also led this effort in the 115th and 116th Congresses.
The Fraternal Order of Police and various Montana Veterans Service Organizations are supportive of the amendment, including the American Legion of Montana and the Department of Montana Veterans of Foreign Wars.
