U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced his committee assignments for the 118th Congress. Daines will serve on the U.S. Senate Committees on Finance, Energy and Natural Resources, Banking, and Indian Affairs.
“It’s a great privilege to serve on these four important Senate committees, and I look forward to ensuring that the Montana way of life is represented every step of the way as legislation is crafted. Specifically, I’ll be fighting for policies that support American energy development, cut wasteful spending, common sense forest management, active management of our public lands and natural resources, as well as ways to strengthen our Tribal communities,” Daines said.
Daines’ committee assignments include jurisdiction over areas that have a major impact on Montana, including policies pertaining taxes and trade, economic competition, healthcare, insurance, and Social Security, financial markets, small businesses, energy development, forest management, access to public lands, hunting and sportsmen priorities, national parks, as well as federal relations with Tribal communities.
U.S. Senate Committee on Finance: The Committee has jurisdiction over policies relating to taxation and revenue measures; customs and ports of entry and delivery; trade agreements; tariffs; transportation of dutiable goods; health programs under the Social Security Act including Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families; and national Social Security.
U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources: The Committee has jurisdiction over energy resources and development, including regulation, conservation, strategic petroleum reserves and appliance standards; nuclear energy; forest management; public lands and their renewable resources; surface mining, federal coal, oil, and gas, other mineral leasing; territories and insular possessions; and water resources.
U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs: The Committee has jurisdiction over monetary policy; banking; housing (including veterans housing); insurance; financial markets; trade promotion; and urban development.
U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs: The Committee has jurisdiction to study the unique problems of American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native peoples and to propose legislation to alleviate these difficulties. These issues include, but are not limited to, Indian education, economic development, land management, trust responsibilities, health care, and claims against the United States. Additionally, all legislation proposed by Members of the Senate that specifically pertains to American Indians, Native Hawaiians, or Alaska Natives is under the jurisdiction of the Committee.
