“One of the number one complaints I hear from businesses is the uncertainty of the tax code. Let’s make it permanent”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today joined Fox Business’ Varney & Co, where he discussed the need to make President Trump’s tax cuts permanent and prevent a massive tax hike from hitting Americans.

Watch the full interview HERE.
Daines emphasized that a $4 trillion tax increase is on the line:
The reason they need to be made permanent is because tax cuts are a means to an end, and that’s economic growth, that’s wage growth. We’ve got to remove the uncertainty of Washington. Like we have right now, there’s a $4 trillion tax increase looming if Congress doesn’t act. We can’t allow that to happen again. That’s why we need to make it permanent. There’ll be a tremendous boost to the economy. One of the number one complaints I hear from businesses is the uncertainty of the tax code. Let’s make it permanent. That’ll help growth.
Daines on how Congress can cut wasteful spending:
As you’ve seen, Elon Musk with DOGE has been a great example of seeing the waste, the fraud, the abuse that occurs with this massive amount of federal spending. We’re going to be spending over $7 trillion this year in the federal government. When you talk about a $2 trillion cut in spending, that’s actually over 10 years. We’re talking about maybe $200 billion per year, over $7 trillion total spending. That’s not too much to ask. We’ve got to be as aggressive about reducing spending as we are about cutting taxes.
Daines also talked about the strategic importance of Greenland to the U.S.:
I visited Greenland before. In fact, we have a very important military installation up on the northwest corner of Greenland. That military installation is a very important early warning system for early detection of a missile launch from an adversary. If the United States were to be hit by a missile attack, it would come over the polar ice cap. That’s why it’s very important strategically and from a military viewpoint for our defense. And President Trump is right to be taking a look at what he can do to better protect our nation as the world is getting increasingly dangerous. I’m proud of JD Vance. He’s going to take the visit. He’ll be looking at that same military installation that I visited and see firsthand how important that is to the United States.
