Daines Votes to Advance NPS Director Nominee

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines today voted to move President Trump’s nominee to serve as Director of the National Park Service, David Vela, out of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Vela’s nomination will now move to the Senate floor for a final confirmation vote.

“Having spent almost 30 years dedicated to the National Park Service, Mr. Vela has the qualifications necessary to be an outstanding Director of our national parks,” Daines said. “I look forward to a full Senate vote to confirm Mr. Vela soon.

Daines, who chairs the U.S Senate Subcommittee on National Parks, has long been a champion for our national parks. Last month, Daines held a field hearing with community leaders and the National Park Service to discuss challenges the parks face. Daines also sent a letter to Congressional leaders in October stressing the need to pass the Restore Our Parks Act, a bill to address the NPS’s maintenance backlog.
