Excerpt from prepared remarks:
Mike’s resume would put him at the top of any pile, but let’s talk about his record of results.
I just returned from a trip to China, South Korea and the DMZ, where I met with the Chinese premier and the prime minister of South Korea, among many other leaders.
Their feedback was clear: the Administration’s diplomacy is what brought Kim Jong Un to the negotiating table.
The Administration is moving the needle toward a denuclearized North Korea and Mike Pompeo has played a leading role in those efforts.
As Secretary of State, Mike would continue to defend and represent America’s interests abroad, protecting our national security and making the world a safer place.
Background:
On January 23, 2017, the U.S. Senate joined Daines in confirming President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), U.S. Representative Mike Pompeo.
On January 18, 2017, Daines met with Pompeo in his Washington, D.C. office where they discussed the critical balance between privacy and security to protect the American people and thwart attacks on the homeland.
