U.S. SENATE —U.S. Senator Steve Daines today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of State, Rex Tillerson.
“As our country’s top diplomat, Secretary Tillerson will prioritize our national security priorities, restore the trust and faith world leaders have in our country and ensure we uphold the promises made to our allies,” Daines stated. “I know Secretary Tillerson will uphold the deep and unwavering commitment our country has to Israel that has been damaged under President Obama’s feckless leadership. It’s day one of a new start to American leadership.”
Immediately following his confirmation, Daines sent a letter to Tillerson noting that he looks forward to working with him “to protect our national security and advance U.S. interests around the world.” Click here to download Daines’ letter.
On January 18, Daines met Tillerson in his Washington, D.C. office where they discussed restoring strong American leadership on the world stage.
