U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today praised President Donald J. Trump’s reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy.
This policy, first established by President Reagan, prevents organizations that receive American taxpayer dollars from performing or promoting abortions abroad, even if done with non-United States government funding.
“The United States stands as an example for the world, and as that example we should not allow taxpayer dollars to be used in the funding of abortion whether within our borders or outside,” Daines stated. “I’m encouraged that in the first days of President Trump’s presidency he is protecting taxpayers and rights of conscience.”
On December 6, Daines urged Trump to reinstate the Mexico Policy. In the letter Daines wrote, “The United States should seek to support the value of life among all nations and no taxpayer funds should be used to support programs such as forced abortion or for the promotion of abortion anywhere.”
