Daines Congratulates Two Montana Students on Appointments to U.S. Naval Academy

 

U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines today congratulated Cade Wessel of Bozeman and Travis Catina of Whitefish on receiving an offer of appointment from the U.S. Naval Academy, located in Annapolis, Maryland. 

Daines called Wessel and Catina today to inform them of the offer and give his congratulations. 

Wessel, a senior at Bozeman High School is a four-year letter winner on the football team, varsity football team captain and starting linebacker for the state championship football team. Wessel is also the throwing captain for varsity track. He has volunteered as a coach for youth basketball, Special Olympics and organized the Bozeman Hawk’s football Military Veteran’s Appreciation game to donate funds to the “Troop Dreams” organization. 

“Cade has shown to be a student that challenges himself both on the field and in the classroom,” Daines stated. “Cade’s determination and leadership will serve him well in the armed forces.”

Catina, a senior at Whitefish High School, is the senior class president, a member of the fly fishing club, Key Club, Little Guy Wrestling Coach and attended Boys State in 2016. Catina is also varsity wrestler and member of the football team. His father is a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces and his mother served as a colonel in the Army and retired after 26 years.

“Travis understands the service and dedication of putting country first,” Daines stated. “I look forward to watch Travis become a future in our armed force.”
