U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines marked the Fourth Annual Startup Day Across America by welcoming Uber to Montana.
Daines spoke at the launch of Uber in Bozeman and was the first Montanan to take a ride in an Uber in Bozeman. State Representative Daniel Zolnikov was the driver.
On Daines’ ride, he picked up a dozen roses for his wife Cindy and surprised her with concert tickets to the Keith Urban concert in Bozeman last night.
“It’s great to see Montana join states across the country in creating economic opportunites with safe and reliable rides for our families, veterans and students,” Daines stated.
Montana leads the nation in business creation, with 540 out of every 100,000 residents starting businesses each month. That number is nearly twice the national average.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, startup firms less than a year old created 1.7 million jobs in 2015, which represents 60 percent of total employment growth. Since 1992, small startup companies have created an average of 2 million jobs every year, with more than half of these jobs created by companies with fewer than 10 employees.
Daines and U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) authored an editorial this week about how startups help the American economy grow.
