Earlier today, Senator Steve Daines took to the Senate floor in honor of Montana World War II veteran Charles DeCrane, a member of the Crow Tribe, who passed away earlier this week in Billings, Montana.
Daines made the following remarks on the Senate floor this morning:
“Today I rise in honor of Montana World War II veteran Charles DeCrane, a member of the Crow Tribe, who passed away earlier this week in Billings, Montana.
“Charlie was an incredible person – he was hardworking, he dedicated his life to serving his country and his Tribe.
“He was a quiet and gentle spirit and that was apparent to anyone that comes into contact with him.
“Charlie was a man of principle and honor.
“I had the privilege of spending time with Charlie last year in Washington, D.C. when he accompanied me as my one special guest to the State of the Union Address.
“I was able to witness firsthand truly what an amazing man he was.
“Our walk from my office to the House Chambers is one I’ll never forget.
“To personally know a man who fought so courageously in World War II was a great honor.
“Many freedoms we have today stem from the sacrifices made by Charlie and men and women like him, because his accomplishments in his life will continue to live on.
“It is my hope that through Charlie’s life we remember how important our veterans are, and how much respect and care they deserve.
“His passing is one that will affect many, not just his close family and friends.
“Cindy and I will be keeping Charlie’s family and the entire Crow community in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
