U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines joined his Republican colleagues in introducing the “Visa Integrity Preservation Act,” which will halt the Biden-Harris administration’s violation of the “Immigration and Nationality Act” by ending its policy of allowing immigrants who illegally entered the U.S. or overstayed their visas to regularize their status through obtaining temporary work visas.
“Joe Biden and ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris have failed to secure the southern border, and Montanans are bearing the burden,” said Daines. “The ‘Visa Integrity Preservation Act’ will stop the abuse of nonimmigrant visa programs and is a step in the right direction towards holding Joe Biden and Kamala Harris accountable for the border crisis they created.”
Senators John Cornyn (R- Texas), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Crapo (R-Ihado), Ted Budd (R- N.C.), Dan Sullivan (R- Ark.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Bill Hagerty (R- Tenn.), Pete Ricketts (R- Neb.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined Senator Daines in introducing the legislation.
Background:
In June 2024, the Biden-Harris administration announced a new initiative to grant amnesty to over half a million illegal immigrants, waiving the consular interview requirement for nonimmigrant visas and enabling immigrants who have illegally entered the U.S. or overstayed a visa to obtain temporary work visas. The “Visa Integrity Preservation Act” would end that practice and clarify that illegal immigrants must depart the U.S. for an interview before they can receive a nonimmigrant visa.
